rice cereal and reflux? My one month old has pretty severe gastroesophageal reflux. The dr has her on the infant form of Zantac, one ml 2x per day. She is miserable at different times of day, and we believe it is because of the acid....she makes gagging faces and looks uncomfortable around feedings, stopping frequently but still being hungry. She also wants to eat every 1 to 1 1/2 hours. The dr would like it stretched to at least two (she is on Nestle Good Start, the only thing, breastmilk included, that she could keep down sufficiently). Despite this, she is gaining a good ammt of weight and thriving. She went from 6 lbs 12 oz at birth to 9 lbs 7 oz at one month. Because she is constantly hungry yet never satisfied (she takes in a good amt at each feeding), the dr also recommended a small ammt of rice cereal added to her formula. I am concerned, I have read mixed things about this, but I'd like her to be more satisfied after a feeding. Will be getting another opinion. Anyone done this before?

is it ok my 8 week old son has reflux and dr told me to put 1 table spoon for every 2 oz rice cereal? at first he was on similac advance, then soy and now alimentum. he is also on rice cereal and ranitidine 0.5ml twice daily. He still spits up and i am so afraid to lay him down at nite afraid he is going to choke. i brought him a crib wedge but don't work. he sleeps in his bouncer chair and be looks very missable. i fell on a rock just above my knee it feels like it is on fire. i have done rice for 2day should i see a dr? i don't have constent pain just when walking and when i stand up. it is bruised really bad all around my knee but only sore above my knee. i have been following the rice yesterday and today. and have sat on the couch w/ my leg elevated for the last 2 days. just wondering if maybe it could be something other than a bruise. thank you

Rice cereal to an 8 week old? So here's my dilemma. I took my 8 week old to the dr today for his 2 month shots and she informed that since he weighs close enough to 13 pounds that i should start putting rice cereal in his bottle a couple times a day. Well, he obviously has a low pain tolerance because he's been screaming all night long whenever anything touches his little thighs where he had his shots and so after his bath i gave him some cereal in his bottle. Well, he just drank it and now i'm all worried about him being too young for rice cereal so i got on the internet and looked it up and havent found too many positive things about giving an infant cereal in the bottle. I've got myself all worried. She also said to give a tsp for every ounce but he only eats about 4 ounces every 3 hours and so i only gave 3 tsps. He spits up a lot and so now i'm worried he might spit up during the night and choke on it. Opinions?

Rice vs. Oatmeal baby cereal? My son has been on rice cereal for about a month now under Dr's orders. We've recently started the rice with bananas and its a bit thicker. He loves it! My question is: Whats the difference between rice and oatmeal for baby? Just the taste? Are you not supposed to give oatmeal until the baby is older because of possible allergy?

starting baby on rice cereal? My son is about 3 1/2 months now, and when we eat he's always mocking us, and it seems like he doesn't get as full as he use to off of the formula.. He's a big boy by the way.. So we're starting him on rice cereal.. I followed the directions on his first feeding, and he loved it.. If a baby takes rice cereal in a bottle should he be eating less? As a last resort for our son (who is 7m) has reflux as well as oral issues his GI Dr suggested trying rice cereal 1tablespoon to each 2oz breast milk/formula. he is getting on average 12-15 tablespoons of cereal a day. We hope to eventually cut back. I am asking since he still seems to want the same amount of liquids. and is gaining quicker. I've also read about babies who take cereal in a bottle can't always tell they are full since they want to keep drinking or something along those lines. before anyone says he should have it in his bottle please keep in mind he is actually eating better and chokes less with his feeding being thicker
5 month starting rice cereal? We started our baby on rice cereal at 4 months with the Dr's ok, she didn't want to drink her formula as much so the RN suggested that we wait awhile and then try again. We have tried it again at almost 6 months and she is doing good, likes the cereal tolerates it well but her formula intake has decreased again. I put formula in her cereal but this is not enough, has anyone else had this expereince and any suggestions.

5 month old vomiting occasionally after starting rice cereal and has a cold? 12-27-07 daughter has appt with doctor, gets rotovirus vaccine, dr. recommends we start rice cereal 12-28-07 start rice cereal 12-29-07 notice daughter coughing, also notice cold symptoms in myself 12-30-07 take her temp, has a low grade temp of 99.5 and a runny nose 1-01-08 vomits after eating rice cereal, still running low grade temp and really runny nose 1-3-08 vomits twice, once after rice cereal, another after evening feeding 1-4-08 vomits once after rice cereal she eats rice cereal twice a day, and like i said she has a cold. i'm just wondering if the vomiting could be because of the drainage from her nose making her stomach hurt because that happened to me a lot as a kid. or if maybe she is having some sort of reaction to rice cereal. she is breastfed only, no formula. she also saw the doctor on 1-2-08 and i told them about her throwing up the night before and having a temp and they said it wasnt a big deal. anyone else dealt with something like this?

Rice Cereal for One Month Old? I always though giving cereal to a baby under three months old was not a very good idea. However, my son was eating 50+ ounces of formula per twenty four hour period. The pediatrician suggested cereal in his case because consuming more than 32 oz of formula per day is not good for a baby at any age. Moreover, typical one-month olds eat 26 ounces so my baby is wanting double the typical amount. So now at the doctor's advice, I'm feeding him rice cereal. However, he's still super hungry--What do you think? What in the world could be causing my child to want so much food? Neither me or my husband are anywhere near fat or even chuncky and being overweight doesn't run in either of our families? Could something be taking my baby's nutrition from him (parasite or something?)?? He goes to the dr. Friday so I hope to get some answers then...
Red Yeast Rice? Last weekend, I heard Dr. Rosenfeld say something about the main ingredient for reducing cholesterol in red yeast rice being taken out of the otc pills on the market. He did say that there is one brand that still has it. Does anyone know what brand still carries this active ingredient? I cannot for the life of me remember.
