Baby rice for windy baby?

my baby is 10 weeks old and is very windy, she crys for hours. I've tryed coleaf, infacol dr brown bottles and lots of winding but nothing has helped. A friend said she gave her baby a spoon of baby rice and this helped as it filled her tummy. Do you think this is o.k?

  1. NO - it is not ok. Call her dr.
  2. If you have a WINDY baby on your hands, you have more problems than you think. If you have a WHINY baby, the rice is fine :)
  3. I'm guessing the question is, "Is it OK to give a 10 week old baby rice cereal?" The answer is yes. Both of My sons needed cereal when they were a month old. Good luck!
  4. I wouldn't try this yet.If your baby is colicky she may have an immature digestive system. The last thing she needs is loading down with solids before she is ready. The colic should settle down in the next few weeks, few babies have it past 4 months.A hungry baby is different from a colicky baby, just because it worked for your friend's baby doesn't mean it will work for yours.
  5. I would first have the Pediatrician rule out Colic, Lactose intolorence, or formula allergy of some sort, but yeah a teaspoon of baby rice in the bottle will help fill her tummy. I would put Rice in my daughter's evening bottles to help her sleep longer. You can also ask the DR about putting rice in her formula he will tell you the proper ratio of each and when to increase it.
  6. I think that it ok if you want to know if you can give your baby rice cereal....if the baby is upset for other reasons take them to the doctor. I would say that you should try the cereal, but also make a doctor appt. just to make sure there are not some other problems going on.........
  7. No, I don't think so. I think its supposed to be strictly milk for the first 6 months.
  8. baby cereal in the formula is ok- I did that w/ my son and he's just fine. It's not that big of a deal, but SOME people just overreact! I stopped doing it around 7 months b/c I didn't think he needed it anymore.
  9. I'm in the same boat with my 11 week old.I have been putting alittle rice cereal in 2 of his bottles each day, I think he's crying more than ever now.....I'm going to stop and see if it improves. He has hiccups all the time, and bellyaches.....I'm so stressed.Try it for like 3 days, every kid is differnt, after that if she is no better or worse...stop
  10. I wouldn't give her rice cereal, as it sounds like she already has a lot of gas. Her system is still too immature to handle cereal, and it could give her MORE gas, since she can't digest it yet. Talk to her doctor about getting her a different kind of formula. There's one made by Enfamil that is supposed to reduce gas, hence reducing extended crying. Just because it worked for your friend doesn't mean it will for you. My son is 12 weeks old and sleeps between 7 1/2 and 11 hours a night, and I don't put anything in his bottle except his formula. Every kid is different. You're really not supposed to give rice cereal before at least 4 months. No, it wouldn't cause long-term damage, or any damage at all, but if it increases her gassiness, it'll make YOUR life a living hell for the next few weeks. I wish you and your daughter the best of luck.
  11. i suggest you call your Dr and make appointment and take her and see whats going with the baby might be something that needs more attention
  12. Definitely ask your doctor before asking people here, online. You don't really know why your baby is having this problem, and you would need to have a professional opinion to be sure there is not something important going on that the doctor may need to help with. In this case whatever it may be, the doctor probably could take care of before it becomes more serious. After you have taken your baby to the doctor, if he does not find anything else wrong with the baby, you may want to look at the formula you are feeding her. If you are feeding a formula with a milk-base, then you might try mixing: one part regular cow's milk formula, with one part soy formula. Make sure that only one of the formulas contain iron, and the second formula has no iron it it. Iron can upset little stomachs. Also, if you are giving baby vitamins, try reducing the amount and see if this helps, to also reduce the iron from the vitamin. In addition to trying the change in formulas, you can try holding the baby with her back upright, while feeding. Then tip her head slightly back, so the the formula will go down as she feeds. This one thing helps so that air bubbles do not form while she drinks her formula. (Have you ever tried to drink while you were laying down? Air gets trapped). If you are not bottle-feeding, then try looking at what you are eating that may be upsetting your baby's stomach. We are told to drink a lot of milk, but sometimes the baby reacts to milk, for some reason. See what happens if you don't drink milk for about one week if you are breastfeeding, as this can cause gas, colic, or diahhrea. Other things you are eating could also effect the baby if you are breastfeeding, including spicy foods. Make sure before doing anything else, that you call the doctor, first.
