At what age did you start feeding your baby rice cereal?
My daughter is 5 months today. The Dr gave us the okay to start her on rice cereal at her 4 month checkup, but I'm a little hesitant since I have food allergies and don't want her to develope them. What age did you start your baby on rice cereal? Any food allergies?

- I started my daughter on rice cereal at the age of about 6 weeks and she has been eating it in a bottle with her formula and has never had a problem and no she has no allergies.
- I started my baby on rice cereal when he was four months. He hated it! So, I started mixing it with stage one bananas (after testing the bananas on their own first of course) and he loved it. He has not had any food allergies. He is lactose sensitive, but not intolerant.
- i started putting cereal in my daughter's milk at 1 month and spoon feeding it to her at 3 months. she did not have any allergies.
- My son is four and a half months old (20 weeks) and we will be starting cereal tomorrow! If you think your daughter is ready for solids, go for it. Good luck!
- Our little guy was put on rice cereal at one month in his bottles due to reflux (he does not have it in his bottles anymore). I think they say for cereals it is ok to start at 4 mos (seems to be the consensus more lately), but if you are concerned you can always wait until she is 6 mos.....It is up to you and when you feel comfortable!!
- I started giving my daughter rice cereal and baby fruit at about 6 weeks. Formula just wasn't filling her up, and I wasn't going to let her starve. I started giving her the actual baby foods (peas, beans, mac & cheese dinner) at about 10 weeks. She luckily hasn't had any problems. Your baby shouldn't have any problems. She's old enough for her body to digest it good and stuff. Good luck!
- Never did. I offered solids to my guys between 6 and 7 months, but never processed baby cereal. I never saw the point.
- Solids should not be started before 6 months, especially with a family history of food allergies. Starting earlier will further increase her risk of food allergies. I never started my baby on rice cereal. It's not whole grain and rather nutritionally void. I offered one bit to my firstborn, and he made a face. I took a bite, and I did too. The first grain I give my children is usually oatmeal, which is whole grain. But, I usually start with banana as a first food, just cut a little off the end and mash, very easy.
- 4 months. No allergies. He hated it. I stopped regularly giving it to him at 5 months. He gets it every once in a while now, mixed with yogurt or something, but I don't force feed it to him.
- I started feeding my daughter rice cearel at 4 1/2 months
- Well my son is not yet old enough to start eating rice ceral but his doctor tolds us at our 2 month check up we could start him out on it once he reaches 4 months. I hope this helps.
- Actually I never did rice, I gave him oatmeal starting at 6 months and still do. Rice cereal tends to cause allergies and it isn't as healthy as oatmeal - but it is of course your choice. My son (now seven months) loves the oatmeal and after they get used to it you can add some fruit or a veggie to it as well. I started with a bit in the am and a bit in the pm (make it real thin and mix it with formula, juice, or breastmilk). Just don't give her any in a bottle (like an answerer said) - that can cause choking and the whole purpose of them starting solids is to train them 'how' to eat. And remember it may take a few (or more!) tries to get her to eat it but she will get it. Best of luck!
- My LO has been on rice cereal since just a few days before she was 5 months. I made my own, though, from organic brown rice put thru a (very clean) coffee grinder, and then I make it with almost boiling water & add a little cool breastmilk. She’s had no problems with it—she LOVES it. I don’t have food allergies, just seasonal ones.
- We skipped rice cereal. My son is breastfed. I have several food allergies, so we wanted to avoid anything that wasn't essential (no formula, no rice cereal). We opted to let our son choose when to eat solids and we allowed him to self-feed. He started eating finger foods around 7-8mo, but wasn't really gungho for them until 10mo. http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/index.html Our house is free of my allergens and my son has never had them because I can't risk a contact reaction. He has no allergens of his own thus far. He is 15mo.
